Kujira started as a project on Terra. They were the first public marketplace for liquidated collateral. When Terra collapsed Kujira lost ~50% of its funds before pulling out of Terra’s UST stablecoin. They got off light compared to others but they'd still lost a significant amount of money — somewhere around $3 million.

Following Terra collapse the team decided to build their Layer 1 blockchain using Cosmos — the same project that Terra was built on. Cosmos provides a service called Cosmos SDK which helps you easily create a blockchain "in three steps". The Cosmos SDK has been branded as "the world's most used framework for building blockchains."

Here it starts the second life of kujira, the Cosmos Layer 1 platform for community selected projects creating true value. The new Kujira is "Semi-Permissioned", in order for a contract to launch on Kujira, it needs to be voted in via governance. This ensures that the quality, sustainability and longevity of the network are protected. A tight-knit hub of revenue generating products with great UX. "Grown-up DeFi" is not a meme.

It has an on-chain scheduler that allows protocols to be designed with much less of a reliance on bots. This means there are far fewer wasted transactions. Protocols can be designed to operate more efficiently, and fees which were once required to incentivize bot usage can go back to the users of the network.

It has a Native Token Generation it means Smart contract developers no longer need to handle two individual entry points into their contracts, only needing to design for a native denom. In doing so, every token on the network will be a native Cosmos token, and associated liquidation and trading revenue (with more to come) will all accrue to KUJI stakers.

$KUJI is the native token on the Kujira Network. Staking $KUJI with a Kujira validator will earn you a basket of apex assets over time. All fees that are collected are paid to stakers through our validators.
Kujira does not rely on inflationary tokens in order to incentivise staking. Revenue (including gas) from Kujira's internal dApps such as ORCA and FIN is sent back to stakers, as well as a portion of revenue from each external protocol that launches on the chain.
